Austrians eat lunch from 12 to 14, dinner between 17 and 20. Breakfast is offered in bakeries and cafes, but never in restaurants.
Breakfast usually consist out of a café and a “Semmel” (white, round pastry) with jam, ham or honey. Lunch is the main meal during the day. You may start with a soup (either with nudels, “Fritatten” (=pancakes cut in stripes), “Leberknödel”(=meat ball with liver) or a vegetable soup), then go on to one of Austrian traditional dishes (Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat = fried meat with potato salad / Gulasch = goulash / Schweinsbraten = pork meat with dumpling, cabbage / and many more)
